Mass Attacks in Public Spaces

Mass Attacks in Public Spaces

Mass attacks in public spaces are not uncommon in the United States. There has been a steady increase of mass shootings and other attacks across the country. These types of attacks can be well thought out or random. Individuals may use a firearm, a vehicle, homemade bombs, and other methods to cause mass casualties.

In the event of a mass attack, it is important to be prepared to protect yourself and help others.

While the threat of mass attacks is real, we can all take steps to prepare, protect ourselves, and help others before, during, and after the attack.

Prepare BEFORE.

Before an event happens, there are some things that can be done to help prepare yourself in the event of a mass attack.

Stay safe DURING.

During a mass attack, here are some steps you can take that may help you and the people around you survive the attack.

Stay Alert

Run to Safety

Cover and Hide

Defend, Disrupt, Fight.

Help the Wounded

Be Safe AFTER.

When law enforcement arrives, understand that their primary initial goal is to stop the attacker. They will go past people who are injured or yell to direct people to safety. They may ask you if you know where the attacker is. As more help arrives, the focus shifts to taking care of the injured.
